Oh, fudge! Recall of chocolate treats hits TJ Maxx and Marshalls over mold growth fears; full list of states and map

Sweet treats are one of the joys of summer, but a new recall could leave a bad taste in your mouth. That’s because Authentik Fudge is recalling select units of its popular Montreal Fudge due to potential mold growth contamination. Here’s what you need to know.

What is being recalled?

The recall is for select Montreal Fudge-branded Chocolate Fudge with Nuts in 5.6-oz. packages. In total, 840 units of the fudge are being recalled due to potential mold growth, according to a notice posted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Not all Montreal Fudge Chocolate Fudge with Nuts units are being recalled—only the ones with specific lot numbers and expiration dates, according to the recall notice. Those are:

• Lot 0241500805 with the expiration date of 2025/MR/01
• Lot 0241690105 with the expiration date of 2025/MR/17
• Lot 0241690205 with the expiration date of 2025/MR/17

Where was the recalled fudge sold?

The recalled Montreal Fudge was distributed through Marshalls on 2024-06-19 and 2024-06-20 and sold in the following stores in the following states:

• Marshalls: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Wyoming

• TJ Maxx: Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Washington, Wyoming.

Has the molded fudge caused any illnesses?

Thankfully, no known illnesses or deaths have been reported in connection with the recalled fudge.

The recall notice does not state which type of mold contaminated the fudge. Authentik Fudge found out about the mold after a customer complained about some moldy pieces of fudge inside the unit they had purchased. Authentik Fudge then found additional mold-infected units at the manufacturing facility.

What should I do if I have the recalled fudge?

Do not consume it. Instead, destroy it or return it to its place of purchase for a full refund.
